# Get started with Career Bird: employee guide

## Career Bird gives you a clear picture of your role: the responsibilities it includes and the skills that help you succeed in it.

From there, you can focus on growth with a development plan and learning resources matched to your role. This guide covers your first four steps.

### Step 1: Review your role description

Your role description lists the responsibilities of your role and the skills needed to be successful in it.

1. Sign in to Career Bird.
2. Go to **My career \> Role description**.
3. Read the responsibilities and skills. If something doesn't match the work you do, talk with your manager.

### Step 2: Take the skill survey

The skill survey walks you through the skills in your role description. For each one, you share your experience and comfort level. It takes about ten minutes.

There are no right or wrong answers. Your answers point to growth opportunities and shape your development plan. Your manager also shares their view, and the two together give you a starting point for a conversation about growth.

### Step 3: Start your development plan

A development plan turns your growth opportunities into work projects that help you build skills. Each card in your plan pairs one skill with a work project, a goal and learning resources.

1. Go to **My career \> Development plan**.
2. Click **Add a card** and choose a skill. Career Bird suggests skills based on your survey.
3. Review the suggested work project and edit it to fit what's on your plate.
4. Set a goal and a due date.

Work with your manager to choose projects that fit your current work.

### Step 4: Explore learning resources and career paths

- **Learning resources:** courses, articles, podcasts and books, each mapped to a skill in your role. Bookmark a resource or mark it in progress or complete.
- **Career Explorer:** see other roles in your track, role family or department, at your level and up to two levels above. You can also browse other job families and departments.
- **Growth Profile:** share your career goals and choose a target role. Your Growth Profile also brings together your survey results and your active development plans in one place.

### Frequently asked questions
